FAQs

What will my child need to play?
Soccer shoes (not football cleats), shin guards (hard-shell are best), and black soccer shorts.  The club provides team jerseys and black soccer socks for games.  Everyone needs their own ball to practice at home.

Where can I find equipment?
In Port Townsend:  Swain's, in Port Hadlock:  Good Sports, On-line:  Soccer.com

What size of soccer ball does my child need?
Teams up to U12 play with a size 4 ball.  U13 and on up play with a size 5 ball.

When and where will my child practice?
Practices times vary depending upon the volunteer coach's schedule.  Usually there are two after school practices per week.  The locations vary as well depending upon field availability.  They may be at Blue Heron Middle School, H.J. Carroll Park, or other school fields.

Do boys and girls play on the same team?
No.  Although sometimes coaches will choose to have practice scrimmages with a boy or girls team.

Can my child come to practice and check it out before we make a decision to register them?
They can come to watch, but cannot play.  The club carries liability insurance on all registered players and cannot allow unregistered players to participate.  Please don't compromise the club by disregarding this rule.

Can my child practice or play on another team?
No, players can only practice and play on the team whose roster they are on.

When will we be contacted about my child's team?
The coaches will receive their team rosters sometime in the middle of August at which time they'll contact players by phone.  If you don't hear from a coach by the last week of August contact the Club Registrar.

How big is the field?
U10 teams and under play Mod-soccer on a smaller field.  U11 and over teams play "full-field" soccer; the field size varies but generally is about 50 x 100 yards.

How many players on a team?
U10 and under teams field 6 players, and have 13 players per team.  U11 and over teams field 11 players, and have a maximum of 18 players per team.

How long does a game last?
Game times vary according to age group and are from 25 to 45 minutes per half with a 5 to 10 minute break.

How do I get a uniform for my child? Each player buys their uniform when they are registered. The uniform kit has a jersey, shorts and socks. This year ('06) the uniform costs $17. You will have the uniform in time for the first game.
